Beirut - Nantes / Mike Posner - Long Time

One of my favorite things is when the blogs I check out have a "Music" feature. Like a songs of the week or that sort of thing. So I came across Beirut's "Nantes" through Jessica's website where she has a Music Monday feature. I went all the way back to the beginning and am making my way to the present. Anyways, I found that Mike Posner did his little remake of this song, and thought, although the original is 100 times better, it was still neat so would share it. Enjoy both!

Ten Relationship Words That Aren't Translatable into English

  • Ten Relationship Words That Aren't Translatable into English

  • Mamihlapinatapei (Yagan, an indigenous language of Tierra del Fuego): The wordless yet meaningful look shared by two people who desire to initiate something, but are both reluctant to start.
  • Yuanfen (Chinese): A relationship by fate or destiny. This is a complex concept. It draws on principles of predetermination in Chinese culture, which dictate relationships, encounters and affinities, mostly among lovers and friends.
  • Cafuné (Brazilian Portuguese): The act of tenderly running your fingers through someone's hair.
  • Retrouvailles (French): The happiness of meeting again after a long time.
  • Ilunga (Bantu): A person who is willing to forgive abuse the first time; tolerate it the second time, but never a third time.
  • La Douleur Exquise (French): The heart-wrenching pain of wanting someone you can’t have.
  • Koi No Yokan (Japanese): The sense upon first meeting a person that the two of you are going to fall into love.
  • Ya’aburnee (Arabic): “You bury me.” It’s a declaration of one’s hope that they’ll die before another person, because of how difficult it would be to live without them.
  • Forelsket: (Norwegian): The euphoria you experience when you’re first falling in love.
  • Saudade (Portuguese): The feeling of longing for someone that you love and is lost. Another linguist describes it as a "vague and constant desire for something that does not and probably cannot exist."

future and a past

let's try to entertain this insomnia with a little blogging.

I like a woman with a future and a past

I know things get hard girl but you got it girl
You got it there you go
Can't you tell by how they looking at you everywhere you go
Wondering whats on your mind, it must be hard to be that fine

I'm so, I'm so, I'm so, I'm so, I'm so proud of you
I'm so, I'm so, I'm so, I'm so, I'm so proud of you
I'm so, I'm so, I'm so, I'm so, I'm so proud of you
Everything's adding
up, you've been through hell and back
Thats why you're bad as fuck and you

i don't need drake's approval :) but the first line is my favorite in this song, and i love the positive overall message. every woman has her own story, her own baggage, no matter if it seems like a big deal to you or not, know that it made her who she is today. and because of that she treats you the way she does. she doesn't do it out of spite. she does it because that's what she was taught is right, or you taught her to be that way. now its up to you to choose if that's good or bad.

yes, women to have their own minds, and are in control of their actions. but to not have been affected by their relationships is a women who has not lived at all. know that much.

A Little Bit of Heaven

Watched this one on Netflix today. I probably shouldn't have watched it in the middle of the day by myself since I could not stop crying. Regardless, the acting I would say was mediocre. Kate Hudson does her normal cute funny girl routine even when she is facing death, and well Gael Garcia Bernal I would say is an okay actor. Now in his native tongue I do believe he has much more potential probably. But he is a very beautiful man.

What I did enjoy was the setting. I love the New Orleans setting, the architecture, the music, and the social life that was featured. It was fun and refreshing even for a sad movie. And although I know it was the point to make Dr. G's character very quirky, I gotta admit some of his jokes were pretty funny.

Why does it suck being an egg?
* You only get laid once.
* You only get eaten once.
* It takes 4 minutes to get hard. Only 2 minutes to get soft.
* You share your box with 11 other guys.
* But worst of all.... The only chick that ever sat on your face was your mother.

that was pretty funny.

NavinR - Open Up Your Star

I have discovered a website I am making my way through that focuses on the songs that are featured in TV commercials and such. Which I always find myself using soundhound when I hear a song that I might like. What Song Is In That Commercial is the site for you all. Anyways I came across this find.

The song featured is called "Open Up Your Star" by NavinR. I was trying to look up some info on them but I can't seem to find much. But I am going to make my way through their albums on band camp. I love the feel of it. They have 3 albums up on their. This one is a good track! Take a listen and purchase on bandcamp if you like what you hear. And I'm sure there will not be any complaints on the Kate Upton commercial haha.

I've fallen to the ever growing fandom of the "50 Shades" series. :) I love how the author incorporates different kinds of music into the series, so I complied the songs available on spottily and made the songs mentioned in the book into a playlist. Helps with the imagery while reading.

99 Problems. HOVA . Hugo . Tony Lucca .

When I heard Tony Lucca's rendition of this song, I guess I missed the part where they say they were inspired by the Hugo version. Anyways, I love Tony's version, and I really liked his creative work on the show this season! But I wanted to give credit where credit was due, since I did like Hugo's version too. Enjoy!

Valentine Black - What A Woman Can Do

This one came through my inbox today. This is my first post to feature an artist that I was emailed about :) But I was impressed by this track. It just seems so down to earth, and his catching point is "the heart of Springsteen, the head of Dylan, the guts of the Clash and the imagination of Bowie." That would be the perfect rock combo! His first international release is set for later this year. This Irish artist has himself a bright future I think and can't wait to hear more!

Foo Fighters - Best of You

Lots and lots of things going on lately. Coachella this weekend is the biggest excitement :) That's all I've been talking about. And probably will be talking about for awhile. But besides that great moment, school and work are pretty much the routine.

This one goes out to the bestie. It's the song that brought us together so he would say.

(Spotify finally added red hot chili peppers to their catalogue btw :) )

So Sophomore year of high school, my musical taste pretty much consisted of J-pop (WFL love!). So not listening to English music and never having cable at my house, pretty much put me out of the loop with most things. How did I have friends? haha. Anyways, finally I came out of that J-pop phase, and this was one of the songs I said I really liked.  Then I think finally at that point Eric thought I might actually be cool. And we've been close every since. So thanks Foo Fighters for bringing us together. And I am extremely excited to spend your birthday weekend with you at Coachella Eric <333333

Britney Spears - (I Got That) Boom Boom

I am really excited about this post. I wanted to try out the new feature that spotify has :) This is great for bloggers, and I will most definitely be using it for this site.

I decided to go with my 2nd favorite Britney track showcase this new feature for a few reasons.
1. I Love Her
2. I watching something with the Ying Yang Twins and made me think of this song
3. Some guy at work was singing a Britney song today so I am now inspired. He called her a genius :) I dunno about that but she is gold.

I know there's been a lot of talk about her, but I stay a fan. I grew up listening to her, and I think it's a lot of fun. I had such a great time with my girlfriends going to see her last year in Vegas, so she will have a special spot. Enjoy!!!

I always love good covers. I think William is an excellent vocalist. Friend sent me this song on spotify, and I am hooked. I love Zooey Deschanel but I can't get into her vocals and couldn't get into the cover She & Him did of this song on 500 Days of Summer. I think William does a much better approach.

With spring break in session, I hope to find some new music to share with you all. And oooohhh have I found a gem. This group is getting a lot of love around the blogosphere these days. They call themselves The Neighbourhood. Hopefully I can find some more info about the band soon. Being said to have similar vibes to Lana del Rey and Cold War Kids, which I happen to both love. What a coincedience! haha. Anyways, gotta support my Cali based artists, so here is their track Sweater Weather. Spread the love ya'll

The Day Has Come

The day has come where my current favorite song might take position #2 because a new one has come along that has captured my heart and ears. (yes I may be over dramaticizing just a bit). Regardless, let me introduce you all to my new favorite.

I know I am a little late in discovering this gem of a song. But I we have officially connected. I will hopefully be hearing this live next month which makes me even more psyched about the fact. I learned this track has a little connection to my late Heath Ledger, who was my favorite actor. So that made me fall in love even more. Just everything about this song is amazing. Thanks for showing this to me friend :) So take a listen and tell me what you think.

Anicase

These are adorable little iphone cases from a New York based company. They are tooo cute. Their slogan is a "A Case for a Cause". What does this mean exactly?

Well each case represents an animal that is currently endangered. The purpose of these cases are for awareness and also 10% of the net profits go towards the support for endangered animals.

So these are ridiculously cute, and help the world. What a deal! Go buy one!!

Passion

I have been watching Buffy on Netflix. Mostly for my love for Angel :) But these lines from the episode "Passion really struck me, so I wanted to share it on here.

“Passion. It lies in all of us. Sleeping... waiting... and though unwanted, unbidden, it will stir... open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us... guides us. Passion rules us all. And we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love... the clarity of hatred... the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank. Without passion, we'd be truly dead.”

8

Prop 8 is something that I have discussed with friends and have felt strongly about. Love is love, we don't see enough true love anymore, and who is the government to say who can get married and who can not. There is a separation of church and state for a reason, and so the government shouldn't meddle in the affairs of those who want to get married. Now I am not saying anything that there cannot be people who are against this. Of course everyone can choose their own beliefs. But it is not the governments affair, if same sex marriages aren't recognized in the church and ceremonies cannot be done there, then I cannot say that that is wrong. But I do think that Christian individuals should not be hateful of those who love those of the same sex.

Well there's my piece on that, but this is what I really wanted to bring up.

Just look at all these big names! Well I am going to copy the article on here from the LA Weekly Blogs so you can see why they are all getting together.

The American Foundation for Equal Rights, the plaintiff in California's never-ending court battle to overturn Proposition 8, is announcing this morning that Pitt has accepted a starring role in Saturday's live reading of "8," a play about the trial.
The Moneyball hunk will be playing...
... Judge Vaughn Walker, the appeals-court judge whose pro-gay-marriage ruling was called into question when opponents found out he was gay.
The play, as directed by Rob Reiner, will be read at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. But since those tickets are long gone, and because we all equally deserve the right to watch Pitt do his best old-gay-man impression, the entire show will be livestreamed on YouTube.
George Clooney and Martin Sheen are already signed on to play head plaintiffs. "

So if you are free Saturday night, be sure to check this out! How awesome is this??? Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and all these other stars coming together. Amazing

Rainbow Jelly Shooter

So it's been awhile since I did a Bottom's Up post. I am a fan of Jello Shots. I like Jello, and well shots!!!

Rainbow Jelly Shooter

Suggested pan: 9" x 13" cake pan, or molds
Yield:  about 45 jelly shots
Garnish: Maraschino cherries, if desired

If flexible silicon molds are used, prepare the molds with a quick spray or wipe of vegetable oil, then wipe the molds clean with a clean paper towel.  This will leave a slight residue to assist in unmolding, but will not affect the taste or appearance of your jelly shots.

Red Layer
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 envelopes Knox gelatin
  • 1 box 3 oz box cherry or strawberry gelatin dessert
  • 1 cup flavored vodka (we recommend Hangar One, Buddha's Hand citrus infused vodka, but your favorite will work just fine!)

Pour water in small saucepan, sprinkle with Knox gelatin.  Allow to soak for a minute or two.  Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until gelatin is dissolved, approximately 5 minutes.  Remove from heat.  Add the gelatin dessert mix, stir until dissolved.  Stir in the vodka.  Pour into pan and refrigerate until fully set, about an hour.

Yellow Layer
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 envelopes Knox gelatin
  • 1 box 3 oz box lemon gelatin dessert
  • 1 cup flavored vodka  (we recommend Hangar One, Buddha's Hand citrus infused vodka, but your favorite will work just fine!)

Pour water in small saucepan, sprinkle with Knox gelatin.  Allow to soak for a minute or two.  Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until gelatin is dissolved, approximately 5 minutes.  Remove from heat.  Add the gelatin dessert mix, stir until dissolved.  Stir in the vodka.  Allow mixture to cool to room temperature, then pour over the set red layer and refrigerate until fully set, about an hour.

(Note, if you are garnishing with maraschino cherries, add them immediately after the yellow layer is poured in.  Cut the very bottoms off the cherries so they will stand upright.)

Blue Layer
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 envelopes Knox gelatin
  • 1 box 3 oz box Berry Blue gelatin dessert
  • 1 cup flavored vodka (we recommend Hangar One, Buddha's Hand citrus infused vodka, but your favorite will work just fine!)

Pour water in small saucepan, sprinkle with Knox gelatin.  Allow to soak for a minute or two.  Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until gelatin is dissolved, approximately 5 minutes.  Remove from heat.  Add the gelatin dessert mix, stir until dissolved.  Stir in the vodka.  Allow mixture to cool to room temperature, then pour over the set red and yellow layers and refrigerate until fully set, several hours or overnight.  (Its ideal to let this chill overnight so the layers can fully bond.)

Mandalay - It's Enough Now

I am having a love affair with this song. Like many, but this is my current muse for life. It is simply beautiful. I was introduced to this song through a friend. They send me originals of hip hop songs so it makes listening to music much more fun. So I will be posting the hip hop song as well.

A little history on the group. Mandalay is a trip hop group (this is probably my go to music as of lately), but what catches me is Nicola Hitchcock's vocals. It is so peaceful just to listen too. And of course my love for anything with violin's. I read that she worked with Tiesto on a track so I'll have to check that out. But accorording to wikipedia, they were tagged as Madonna's favorite band for a little while. Awesome!!!!

Hope you love it!

Artist Spotlight : Chor Boogie

"Chor Boogie, born Jason Hailey in 1979. He was handed a paint brush at the mere age of five from his kindergarten grade school teacher, started painting and fell in love with the creative process immediately, telling his teacher "When I grow up I am going to be an artist." Thus overtime Chor Boogie was exposed to the spray paint medium along with many other trials and tribulations that changed his life and formed this learning lesson we live in.

A deep spiritual healing and recovery from addiction nearly a decade ago transformed his life and has had a major impact in his style of color therapy and techniques of creative innovativeness. Chor Boogie moved to San Francisco in 2007 and took the leap to pursue a full time career in art. His visionary works ignites the hearts and minds of the masses world wide. There is no color he does not use. He creates a wide range of forms pioneering his inverted can technique which slows down the pressure of the paint and creates dense, rich tones giving room for more detail on a broad perspective. Chor Boogie's dynamic range of artistic styles can manifest as soulful, deftly shaded portraits to color therapy, geometric elements adding up to half hidden faces, and a minds eye or two to encourage you to see internally and externally."

I am not an artist myself. I don't have that creative mind and talent that many do. But ohhh do I appreciate it. And I especially love graffiti art and spray paint work. So I was very drawn to Chor's work when I saw it, and wanted to feature it here on the page. So take a look. Hope you enjoy it too :)

Gossip Girl Soundtrack

One of my guilty pleasure shows to watch is none other than Gossip Girl. The lives of those of the Upper East Side keep me coming back for more every week. But what I am really impressed by is the musical gems that can be found through the show. Some are stuff on the radio regularly, but quite frequently I see myself using my SoundHound app on my phone to find what song was just playing. So, took some work, but I have compiled a list of songs that have been featured on the show thus far that are available on spotify. So I hope you enjoy it and I will continue to update it on a regular basis as new episodes come on.

And I have found a new girl crush my friends. She is stunning.

Please meet Ms. Amira Ahmed if you have not already. She is featured as this month's model citizen. I love people who have mixed racial backgrounds, and Amira's father is from Somalia and her mother from the Phillipines.  She grew up all over the world the article says, but most of her studies were done in Prague. She was scouted while working at a fast food restaurant and studying at the University of Westminster. She is currently 22 years old, and I am certain we'll be seeing more of her face.

Fred Perry x Medicom

For Fred Perry's 60th year in existence,  they will be teaming up with Japanese toy manufacturer by the name of Medicom to create this cute little toy.

Why does this matter to you Hana, you may ask? Well I am Japanese of course! haha. Well there is more then that reason. My interest with the British label Fred Perry is because of this.

Marshall seems to wear this brand a lot on HIMYM. I didn't pay attention so much in the later seasons, but definitely in the beginnings ones you can see him sporting Fred Perry a lot. So it has sparked an interest. My mom also wears a Fred Perry polo, but she has had it for WAY to long haha. May I should replace it for her? haha

Anyways the name of this cool little toy will be Bearbrick and will be available starting February 1st.

And well we all know how I love Kanye, and he produced this track which makes it even more special. I'm gonna post a youtube link of a song he sampled from. I might try to do more of these sample features regularly.
